Carp Throwdown - Save the Date - June 8, 2013

Carp Throwdown at Lake HenshawSanta Ysabel, California - The Carp Throwdown on Lake Henshaw is a catch and release carp on the fly tournament hosted by celebrity angler, Conway Bowman. The tournament, which is in its second year, will take place on June 8th and be sponsored by Orvis, Abel, UMPQUA, Howler Bros, and more. Rumor has it that CarpPro will be in attendance and Davis Smay even be tempted to chuck some fluff at a tail or two. He might even flyfish as well!

There are two separate dicisions, boat and wade, and the rules are real simple: Bring your serious sight-fishin' carp face to this party. All standard fly rods, tippet class and flies are allowed. All catch and release! And that's it!

The event was a huge success in 2012 and promises to be bigger still this year. There are two separate divisions: Boat and Wade

"Some fly fishers ask "Why carp?" with puzzled looks, but then we bring up the virtues of casting the fly to tailing or surface slurping carp. Believe me, we totally understand their bewilderment. It does not make sense right? Casting a fly to a fish that we've been fooled into believing would rather eat Cheetos then a well presented foam hopper or crawdad fly."
